NOTE: This is the entry for the Jacksons' percussion player. For the bassist, "American Idol" jury member and studio executive please refer to [a=Randy Jackson (2)]. Born October 29, 1961 in Gary, Indiana, USA. At eleven years old he joined his older brothers in the Jackson 5, playing congas and continued to play percussion as an "unofficial" sixth member of the band. In 1976, after moving to CBS Records and changing their name to The Jacksons, Randy was named as the newest member of the group, replacing Jermaine who left for a solo career. He played a decisive role in the band's success at the time, co-producing the album Destiny and co-writing Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) with Michael Jackson, which became the group's biggest-selling single to date, with over 2 million copies sold. Following the Jackson's split in 1990 he formed a short-lived, one-album project, Randy & The Gypsys.
