Label owner of [l=Mukatsuku Records]. Nik Weston has been running club nights in the UK since 1995. His Mukatsuku night launch with two friends in 1996 was highly regarded and written about in many music publications of the time including DJ, The Face, ID, Muzik, Sky, Blues & Soul. The London Evening Standard nominated the event as club night of the year in 1997. Since then Nik has played with a huge list of DJ's and bands on the jazz dance and beats scene and continues to spin all over the world. Over the years he's played with [a=Gilles Peterson], [a=Patrick Forge], [a=Phil Asher], [a=DJ Krush], [a=DJ Cam], [a=DJ Vadim], [a=Richard Dorfmeister], [a=Nicola Conte], [a=Calm], [a=Little Big Bee], [a=Cinematic Orchestra, The], [a=Domu], [a=Raw Deal], [a=Studio Apartment], [a=Talvin Singh], [a=Faze Action], [a=Kyoto Jazz Massive], [a=Mark De Clive-Lowe], [a=DJ Mitsu The Beats], [a=Alex Attias], [a=Swell Session], and DJ supported live bands such as [a=US3], [a=Courtney Pine], [a=Ayro], [a=Five Corners Quintet], [a=Nathan Haines], [a=Marlena Shaw], [a=Sleep Walker], [a=Pharoah Sanders], [a=Jazztronik], [a=Fertile Ground], et al. For 4 years he was a monthly resident at Russ Dewbury's Jazz Rooms in Brighton and nowadays you can catch him spinning at venues like The Jazz Cafe or Ronnie Scotts plus his residency at Smiths in Farringdon. Nik first started in the music business doing promotions for Island Records where he stayed for 5 years until he started doing consultancy at Verve & Universal Jazz. In 2001 he begun running promotional company Mukatsuku Pr whilst also doing A&R for [l=Exceptional] whilst working freelance as a music consultant for some labels. In 2005 he started working as a Japanese music buyer for Juno (www.juno.co.uk) where he still works and in 2006 he started his label Mukatsuku Records which he runs part time. As a DJ Nik has toured in Japan 13 times supporting his various compilations and single releases. His first major tour in Japan was in 2001 where he was part of the Brasil Nights tour around country with [a=Victor Davies] and [a=Studio Apartment]. He has been special guest on Tokyo's Shibuya FM on three occasions and was a guest on [a=Jazztronik]'s radio show (Tokyo & Fukuoka) in May 2005 and played at the Room Club in Tokyo 2007 New Years Eve. Nik has also had DJ tours in Australia, played in Canada, Russia, Poland, Singapore, and extensively all over Europe. Nik also played at the World Famous Big Chill Festival in Summer 2004 at Eastnor Castle. As a radio DJ in 2004 he did a national BBC radio 1 hour long music special and he now regularly records two radio shows; one with Nigel Prankster called the Forwardsbackwards show on Milkaudio, the other called the Konnichi Wah Wah show with Dom Servini on Samurai FM. Since 2008 Nik has been concentrating more on his limited edition vinyl only label, Mukatsuku Records. Married to [a=Yuki Weston].
